JobFigure

Job costing for remodeling contractors

Remodel margins disappear one small yes at a time: an extra outlet, a different tile, a pot filler. JobFigure makes each of those a change order before the work is done, and shows materials, subs, and crew hours against the job while you’re still on it.

What remodelers track in JobFigure

Set up for remodeling from the first day

When you pick Remodeling & Handyman as your trade, JobFigure loads these cost categories for budgets, receipts, and job costs. You can rename or add your own at any time.

Bid line items use the units remodeling actually bid in: square feet (SF), linear feet (LF), each (EA), hours (HR), and lump sum (LS).

Example: what a remodeling job looks like mid-way

Gut and rebuild a kitchen: new cabinets, quartz tops, tile backsplash, LVP flooring, and lighting, with subs for electrical, plumbing, and countertops. The cabinets are in; the tops are being templated.

Kitchen remodel: contract $86,400
Cost categoryBudgetSpent so far
Materials$28,350$23,760
Labour$18,220$13,360
Subcontractor$16,200$8,640
Disposal$2,030$1,960
Permits$1,220$1,220
Supplies$2,160$1,480
Other$2,030$400
Total$70,210$50,820

The cabinets and flooring are bought, so materials at 84% is expected. Labour at 73% is the one to watch, with the backsplash, trim, and punch list ahead. Homeowner add-ons are where remodel margins disappear: if they asked for under-cabinet lights or a pot filler, log it as a change order before the electrician runs it.

Invoices the Canadian way

Set your company to Canada and each invoice applies GST, HST, or GST plus PST or QST for the province where the work is, and tracks the 10% holdback. At year end, the subcontractor payments report gives you the totals for T5018 slips. Prices are in Canadian dollars. More in our guide: GST/HST, PST and holdback on construction invoices in Canada.
