JobFigure

Job costing for landscaping contractors

Landscape installs have thin margins and lots of moving parts: plant material, turf, irrigation, rentals, and crews who bounce between jobs. JobFigure keeps plants and turf on their own line and puts every crew hour on the right job.

What landscaping contractors track in JobFigure

Set up for landscaping from the first day

When you pick Landscaping as your trade, JobFigure loads these cost categories for budgets, receipts, and job costs. You can rename or add your own at any time.

Bid line items use the units landscaping actually bid in: square metres (m²), cubic metres (m³), each (EA), and lump sum (LS).

Example: what a landscaping job looks like mid-way

Grading, irrigation, 210 trees and shrubs, mulch beds, and 5,400 square metres of turf. The irrigation and plantings are done; the turf goes down next week.

New office park landscape install: contract €120,600
Cost categoryBudgetSpent so far
Plants & Sod€46,800€30,060
Labour€34,200€25,110
Materials€16,200€14,040
Equipment Rental€6,300€4,590
Fuel€2,700€1,980
Dump Fees€1,350€720
Other€1,800€450
Total€109,350€76,950

Plants and turf at 64% looks right, with the turf, the rest of that budget, still to come. Labour is the tight one: 73% is spent, and laying 5,400 square metres of turf takes a lot of labour. On a job with margin this thin, put the full crew on the turf and get it down in as few days as possible.

Invoices the Irish way

Set your company to Ireland and every quote and invoice carries VAT, with Revenue’s reverse charge wording when you work for a principal contractor. Subcontractors can switch on RCT and show the deduction at the rate on the deduction authorisation. Prices are in euro. More in our guide: RCT and the VAT reverse charge for subcontractors in Ireland.
